Two Appear in Court for Wilful Damage and Stealing Sand in Gunjur


Bubacarr Jawo and Abdoulie Touray have been charged with the criminal offences of wilful damage and theft of sand, with the total value of the stolen property amounting to seventy thousand Dalasis (D70,000). The case, brought under Section 252 of the Criminal Code Cap 10 Volume III, Revised Laws of The Gambia 2009, involves the alleged theft of ten wheel trips of sand.

The property where sad was allegedly stolen belonging to Lamin L. Camara

The particulars of the case state that on 21st July 2024, in Gunjur, West Coast Region of The Gambia, Jawo and Touray unlawfully and without a claim of rights stole ten wheel trip of sand.

The truck alledged to have been used to stea sand worth Seventy thousand Dalasis

The sand, valued at D70,000, was loaded onto a motor vehicle with registration number WCR 6845C and driven away. The stolen sand belonged to one Lamin L. Camara.

Cement block fence allegedly knocked down by the accused

In addition to the theft, the defendants have been charged with wilful damage to property. They are accused of damaging a cement block fence worth five thousand Dalasis (D5,000), also belonging to Lamin L. Camara.


The case was brought to court by the Inspector General of Police. Bubacarr Jawo and Abdoulie Touray appeared in court before Magistrate Kanjura Sambou of Brikama Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 15th October 2024.


When the charges were read to the accused, they both pleaded Not Guilty. The case has now been adjourned to 14th November 2024.
