In a significant boost to education and community development in The Gambia, UK-based charity The Turing Trust has donated 60 laptops following a request from the Gunjur Project. The donation aims to enhance IT access for students and educators, equipping them with the digital skills necessary for higher education and employment.
The laptops are to be distributed as follows:
• 20 laptops to Gunjur Senior Secondary School
• 20 laptops to the UK Jarra Association
• 20 laptops to the Gunjur Project Association Community Hub, supporting teacher and student training.

This contribution aligns with The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education’s (MoBSE) efforts to integrate technology into schools. In collaboration with the Global Partnership for Education, the World Bank, and UNICEF, MoBSE has been implementing the ‘One Laptop Per School Initiative’ to address data management gaps and improve digital access in education.
A representative from MoBSE highlighted the urgent need for better IT resources:
“It’s frustrating to see our brightest students leave school ready for higher education, only to be held back by a lack of IT knowledge. This donation from the Turing Trust is a game-changer for our students and teachers.”

By bridging the digital divide, this partnership empowers Gambian communities with essential IT tools, paving the way for a more digitally inclusive education system.
