In a continued effort to promote sustainability, food security, and community well-being, the Ramadan Project, led by Youth MP Hon. Omar A. Manjang, successfully planted nutritious and medicinal fruit crops at the Gunjur Health Center on Wednesday, 26th March 2025.

The initiative, which began three years ago, focuses on planting and distributing fruit-bearing trees in public spaces such as schools, health centers, and roadsides to provide a conducive environment and access to fresh food for all, especially during Ramadan. Volunteers dedicated to tree planting played a key role in this latest exercise, ensuring the crops are well-placed for growth and long-term community benefit.

Beyond public planting, the Ramadan Project also donates fruit plants to committed individuals who pledge to nurture them, ensuring they reach their intended purpose of providing food and environmental benefits. Additionally, the project encourages charitable donations from the public, which are then distributed to various locations or individuals in need.

Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Omar A. Manjang expressed gratitude to volunteers and donors who continue to support the project’s vision. “This is more than just planting trees; it’s about securing a healthier future for our communities, ensuring access to nutritious fruits, and promoting environmental sustainability. This is a nation wide program and currently the project has reached public places in various parts of West Coast and KM Regions with plans to reach Rural Gambia, although this is not yet achieved due to limited partnership and support.” he said.

With each passing year, the Ramadan Project continues to expand its reach, inspiring more people to participate in tree planting, food security efforts, and community-driven sustainability projects.

As the initiative grows, the team welcomes more volunteers, donors, and community partners to join the cause and make a lasting impact.

For those interested in contributing or learning more, the Ramadan Project encourages public participation in upcoming activities to help create a greener, healthier, and more self-sustaining community.
