The Great Escape: Unmasking Corruption Behind Buba Drammeh’s Prison Escape

In a sensational revelation on Mengbe-Kering TV, former Mile 2 Central Prison inmate, Lamin Jarjue, has blown the whistle on a scandal that has left many questioning the integrity of Gambia's prison system. Jarjue accused the current Operation Commander, Mr. Lamin Sowe 'Jumbo,' and Amadou Tamba of orchestrating the escape of Buba Drammeh, a notorious criminal held at the infamous Mile 2 Prison.

Buba Drammeh, also known as Amanding, was a figure of infamy in The Gambia. Known for his aggressive land grabs, thefts, and unrepentant thuggery, Drammeh was serving a three-year sentence and awaiting trial for the murder of Buba Jammeh from Gunjur. Jammeh was allegedly killed by Drammeh during a violent land dispute on March 16, 2019.

Despite his dangerous reputation, Drammeh mysteriously escaped from Mile 2 Prison. The incident has sparked outrage and suspicion, particularly among the family and community of the slain Buba Jammeh, who are desperate for justice.

Lamin Jarjue's account sheds light on a possible conspiracy within the prison. He alleges that corruption among prison officers allowed Drammeh to walk free. According to Jarjue, Drammeh used bribes to secure his escape, with officers like Sowe and Tamba facilitating his exit. The manner of his escape, described as unprecedented, involved him being escorted to an awaiting VIP vehicle, further deepening the suspicions of foul play.

Adding to the family's anguish, there has been a deafening silence from the authorities regarding any formal investigation or explanation of the escape. This lack of transparency has only fuelled the belief that Drammeh's escape was not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of corruption within Gambia's prison system.

Jarjue's allegations also reveal a range of unethical practices within the prison, from accepting cash for favours to allowing inmates access to mobile phones, drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes. These claims paint a grim picture of the state of Gambia's penal system, suggesting that Drammeh's escape might just be the tip of the iceberg.

The call for a thorough investigation into Drammeh's escape is growing louder. It is imperative for the relevant authorities to address these allegations, not only to bring justice to Buba Jammeh's family but also to restore public confidence in the rule of law.

The case of Buba Drammeh has highlighted significant issues within Gambia's prison services that demand immediate attention. The revelations point to a system plagued by corruption, where the very individuals tasked with upholding justice are instead betraying their duty. The escape of a violent criminal like Drammeh must prompt a serious overhaul of the prison system to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

The authorities must swiftly act to re-arrest Buba Drammeh and hold accountable those who facilitated his escape. Only through rigorous investigation and reform can justice be served and the integrity of Gambia's prison system be restored.

Buba Jammeh’s family deserves nothing less.
