At a colorful event held at the City Library on February 25th, the top City officials met with the members of Sun Prairie Islamic Center (SPIC) and discussed issues ranging from diversity and inclusion to economic development, faith, and culture.
In his opening remark, Mr. Habib Camara, a council of Elder of SPIC welcomed the City officials and explained the role of the Council of Elders and what the community stands for and how we hope to be partners in development.
Sun Prairie Islamic Center was formed to give Muslim families and friends a community that nurtures sense of belonging, community development, trust, selflessness, and integrity deeply rooted in faith. The community rents a space at the Sun Shine Place in Sun Prairie that is used as a community center to teach kids about culture and religion for many years and yet to have its own place.
Speaking at the meeting, the City Mayor expressed his delight for the high turnout which he said; was a manifestation of the community’s resolve to be involved in the socio-economic development of the city and the growth it’s experiencing. Mr. Esser highlighted the significance of the four key areas of his development agenda; Diversity and Inclusion, Transportation, Housing, and Planning.
For his Part; Chief Steffes also expressed similar sentiments, noting his appreciation for inviting him to such an important engagement. He assured the community of his department’s resolve to continue making our beautiful city safer where harmony, sense of belonging, and caring for one another is our way of live.
Both the Mayor and Police Chief challenged the community to continue to get involved so that our official reflects our community for a common good.
The meeting was attended by cross-section of the citizens and well-wishers from Madison.
