Schools reopen as the grade 9 students prepare for the Gambia Basic Certificate Examination (GABECE).
Following months of lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic, schools reopen as the grade 9 students prepare to sit to the Gambia Basic Certificate Examination (GABECE). After series of meetings and consultations, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) has finally decided to reopen schools.
Speaking at a visit to schools in the Lower River Region (LRR), the Regional Education Director, Ida Njie, said the Ministry has finally decided to reopen schools to allow the grade 9 students to sit exams and the grade 12 students will be informed in due cause as to when they are to reopen. Her words: "My visit is meant to assess the level of preparedness and to ensure that all the conditions stipulated by the Ministry are met by schools. The pandemic has affected a lot of students but my office will work hand in glove with schools to make sure that they get all the necessary support they needed".
For his part , the Principal of Jappine Upper and Senior Secondary School, Lamin Bayany, said he is delighted to see his students back in school. He also expressed delight at the visit of the Director to his school. He added: "I am glad to see schools reopen again. So much challenge lies ahead but my administration is open to helping the students at any time"
