Berending native, Buba Drammeh, who was arrested and placed in state custody in mile 2 for the killing of Buba Jammeh with a gun over a land dispute has escaped, according reliable sources reaching Gunjuronline.
A source who spoke to Gunjuronline on condition of anonymity disclosed:
“It is with dismay and shock to learnt that Bubacarr Drammeh alias Amanding has escaped from the State Central prison (Mile 2). This issue raises a lot of question that need to be answered by those in authority. It is clear that there was no jail break, his present sentencing did not require him to do any sort of labor which one could claim or use as an excuse in any form or reason to prove that the escape was genuine.
Buba (Amanding) is facing murder charges at Kanifing High Court Annex and the next sitting is scheduled for the 26th January 2021. We informed the authorities during his arrest that he secured a visa for America and that trip was aborted due to his arrest on Saturday whilst the trip was meant for the Monday of the following week. Why has the Central Prison not made any sort of announcement or publication of his escape or public safety in that matter? Who were those on duties and those that lead to his escape? Was the Ministry of Justice Informed about the escape and what was their response?”
Contacted for comment, The Gambia police spokesman Lamin Njie said: “Am unaware of such an incident, but will check to find out and revert back”.
Buba Drammeh is serving a 3 years jail term after he was sentenced and fine D500,000 (Five hundred thousand Dalasis) by magistrate Peter Che at Brikama Magistrates Court for various offences while awaiting the completion of his murder trial for the alledged point blank shooting and killing of Buba Jammeh of Gunjur on 16th March 2019.
Buba Drammeh’s escape from lawful custody raises a lot of questions left unanswered as the family of Buba Jammeh deserve justice for his senseless killing.
