By Sainey Darboe:
Former president of The Republic of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh, is proscribed from running for elections in 2021 according to provisions of the new draft constitution made available to GunjurOnline.
Jammeh’s transgressions in the course of his two-decade rule seem to haunt him from beyond his political grave.
His troubles with the new draft constitution stem mainly from his involvement in acts of corruption established by a commission of enquiry, as well as clannish identification with his vitriolic rant against the majority Mandinka tribe at a political rally in 2015.
The former president is also hamstrung, under the draft constitution spanning 22 chapters and 315 clauses, for his poor treatment of religious minorities.
