Special Tribute To A Special Niece And Dear Friend, An Exceptional Lady Of Great Substance, Timber And Caliber !!
Love is not listed among the gifts of God.
But it is actually the driving force necessary to exercise all gifts.
So, with much love, we pen this special tribute, albeit brief and belated, to a special woman, a living example of an inspirational beacon and a shining lighthouse.
In all truth, she is such a gift to so many, willing to help in any way she can, willing to listen even when there are no words, willing to pray no matter when or where.
It is about none other than Mrs Amie Bojang-Sissoho, one of our exceptional women who has done substantial work in her respective field of endeavour but also made appreciable contribution to the struggle to uproot the 22 year old Jammeh dictatorship from our beloved Gambia.
In passing, Amie was born in Gunjur. Her father was the highly respected Imam Hatab Bojang (1937-1984) and her mother was Ya Khan Jobe.
Amie studied for a bachelor's degree in Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom.
Being an eminent journalist, women's rights activist and politician, she emerged Gambian first woman government's Director of Press and Public Relation, following her appointment by President Adama Barrow.
Indeed, she began her professional career with the Gambia Radio & Television Service (GRTS) where she worked for many years.
She also became the Manager of the Presidential campaign of Dr. Isatou Touray of the Gambia Committee for Traditional Practices (GAMCOTRAP) in the 2016 Gambian presidential election until Touray withdrew her candidacy to support Adama Baroow, who went on to win the election on a coalition of political parties ticket.
After assuming power, President Barrow named her as his government's Director of Press and Public Relation.
Being GAMCOTRAP, she was arrested by the Jammeh maladministration along with Dr. Isatou Touray, on 11 October 2010, on trump-up charges of embezzlement of 30,000 euros and imprisoned in Mile 2 prison.
But they were eventually cleared by the Court of all charges falsely levelled against them.
As such, she has never stopped advocating for women’s rights and for the removal of barriers that prevent women and girls from achieving their full potential.
She has thus given dedicated and passionate leadership to her cause and is truly a trailblazing figure in the fight for women’s rights.
Today, we therefore publicly celebrate and honour — a visionary, a trailblazer, a voice for the voiceless, nay one who continues to embody all that is best in us.
Lastly, her contributions will also continue to inspire, reminding us of the power of words and the enduring strength of those who dare to challenge the status quo.
Making her mark as a compassionate and determined human rights advocate, she thus continues to serve her country and her people with devotion, determination, abnegation and indeed with excellence.
May the Almighty God also continue to bless her and reward her for her kind and good deeds with a continued long life, a continued good health and a continued sound mind in grace and in dignity.
