Overcoming Adversity: The Inspiring Journey of Buba Jatta, Amputee Football Star
He’s 22 years old amputee, born in Gunjur Kunkujang to parents Ousman Jatta and Binta Jabang. Buba Jatta is a rising football star whom despite the loss of his right leg now plays football for the West Coast Region Amputee football team.
Born in 2002, Buba attended Nyofelleh Primary School like most kids around him and started playing street football with his friends while going through his normal childhood. Unfortunately, what started as a headache ended up as a pain in his right leg which was amputated in 2009.
This new reality did not deter Buba, he continued with his education as well as playing football and in 2021, he joined the Amputee Football Team to continue playing the game of football he dearly love. Buba is also a Grade 10 student at the Sanyang Senior Secondary as he builds his footballing career.
n November 2023, Buba represented Gambia in Senegal, and he will be representing the Gambia again in the upcoming African Amputee Football Cup of Nations from 19 - 28 April 2024 in the Egyptian Capital of Cairo.
The talented and versatile player who is exceptional on 1v1 ball situations plays as a full back but can also play in most areas of the pitch.
At the Cairo games, Buba’s Gambian Amputee team will face Ghana, Algeria, and Kenya in Group C of the competition.
