A Jury at the Bristol Crown Court has found Sakawan Siddiqi guilty of the murder of Gambian national Kunta Ceesay. The verdict was reached by a jury and delivered earlier today, following a detailed trial into the tragic events surrounding Ceesay’s death.

Siddiqi, who was on trial for the fatal attack that occurred on September 21, 2024, in Bristol, has been remanded in custody and is expected to be formally sentenced in approximately four weeks.
Reacting to the verdict in a statement issued shortly after, the Gambian High Commission in the UK extended its deep appreciation to the Avon and Somerset Police Force, commending the investigation and prosecution teams for their professionalism and commitment in bringing justice to light.
The High Commission also acknowledged the efforts of the Gambian community in Bristol in their efforts to apprehend Siddiqi following the fatal stabbing last year.
“We also express our sincere gratitude to the Gambian community in Bristol for their support throughout this difficult time, especially in facilitating the repatriation of Mr. Kunta Ceesay,” the statement added.
Kunta Ceesay’s death last September sent shockwaves through both the Gambian and broader African communities in the Bristol. His family, friends, and supporters have been closely following the case, seeking closure and justice.
The High Commission concluded its statement by once again extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the late Kunta Ceesay.
