Justice Ebrima Jaiteh Pays Tribute to Late Principal State Counsel Lamin Jarjue

Banjul, The Gambia – 8 April 2025

With deep sorrow and a heavy heart, Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of The Gambia High Court has paid tribute to the late Principal State Counsel Lamin Jarjue, whose untimely passing while en route to India for medical treatment has left an irreplaceable void within The Gambia’s legal community and beyond.

In his heartfelt statement, Justice Jaiteh described Counsel Jarjue as a beacon of dedication, integrity, and professional excellence. “His demise is not only a loss to his family and friends, but to the legal fraternity and the nation as a whole,” he remarked.

Lamin Jarjue served as Principal State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers with distinction. Known for his unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of law, he approached every case with diligence, precision, and a deep respect for the judicial process. His legal advocacy, marked by clarity, ethical rigor, and a profound grasp of the law, earned him widespread respect among peers and superiors alike.

Throughout his career, Counsel Jarjue was entrusted with high-profile and complex prosecutions. Yet, despite the pressures of his role, he remained humble, kind, and always willing to mentor junior colleagues. His collaborative spirit and mentorship left a lasting impact on many within the legal profession.

“Lamin was not only an exceptional lawyer; he was a true gentleman - humble, respectful, and principled,” Justice Jaiteh said. “His contributions to justice in this country are etched in the history of our judiciary.”

As the legal community mourns this great loss, Justice Jaiteh reminded all of the fragility of life and the enduring legacy left by those who dedicate themselves to public service. “Lamin’s life was one of purpose, marked by quiet excellence and selfless service. He will be remembered not just for what he achieved, but for how he made others feel - respected, inspired, and seen.”

In this time of grief, Justice Jaiteh extended his deepest condolences to Lamin Jarjue’s family, friends, and colleagues, praying for strength and healing in the days ahead.

“Rest in peace, Counsel Jarjue. Your dedication to justice and your unwavering integrity will not be forgotten. May Allah (SWT) have mercy on your soul and grant you Jannatul Firdawse.”
