Following the gun-shot murder of Buba Jammeh in the course of communal clashes between communities of Gunjur and Berending, a coconut tree has been planted in his honour by members of the Gunjur Youth Movement (GYM).

In an interview with GunjurNewsOnline, founder of the community-based organisation, Sulayman Bojang declared:
“Gunjur Youth Movement is here to show solidarity with our beloved, late brother Buba Jammeh who lost his life during the conflict between Gunjur and Berending two weeks ago. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of our late brother. As part of sympathising with his family, Gunjur Youth Movement is pleased to plant a coconut tree in his name to acknowledge his contributions to the community. Gunjur Youth Movement prays for repose of the soul of the deceased and all departed souls”.
The slain Buba Jammeh was allegedly shot with a rifle during confrontation over land by Buba Drammeh from Berending who has been subject to nation-wide manhunt by Gambian police.
