In an exciting curtain-raiser, Gunjur edged out their sister town Sukuta with a 3-2 victory, rekindling local football passion after years of anticipation.

The return of football to Nyamina follows the completion of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) sponsored Mini Stadium construction project, which spanned over six years. The project included the construction of a perimeter fence, installation of a borehole, and a grass pitch. The stadium's official opening will be further celebrated with a Super Cup final match between Mighty Ajax and Continental Stars, sponsored by GFF President Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo.
In preparation for the upcoming final on Saturday, President Bajo made a generous donation to the Gunjur Sports Committee, presenting a giant trophy, gold and silver medals, and D25,000.00 (twenty-five thousand dalasis) during a ceremony held at Football House in Kanifing on Friday. Key GFF officials, including First Vice President Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh, Second Vice President Mr. Ebou Faye, and General Secretary Mr. Lamin M. Jassey, were in attendance. Representatives of the Gunjur Sports Committee, Mr. Lamin Darboe C. and Mr. Assan Jassey, accepted the donation on behalf of the committee.
The Super Cup final will be the first official match at the Mini Stadium following the long-delayed completion of its construction. The Gunjur Sports Committee has named the Super Cup in honour of President Bajo, “recognising his dedication and significant contributions to the development of football in The Gambia, particularly in Gunjur” according to a statement by Gambia Football Federation.
