Former member of the AFPRC military junta, Edward Singhateh, has pleaded guilty to taking part in the summary execution of soldiers suspected of involvement in November 11 coup attempt in 1994.
On his second day of testimony before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Committee (TRRC), Edward Singhateh disclosed the order for the killings was issued by Sanna Sabally and he followed them.
“Sanna Sabally gave the order to shoot them and the order was carried out. I asked the men to carry out the order and shoot them,” he explained.
Edward added that the group went back to State House to give a progress report to President Jammeh, as the plot thickened on the alleged coup attempt.
Jammeh, according to Edward, was not pleased only the ring leaders were killed and ordered for the execution of others associated with them who had been taken into custody.
“We went back to Yundum Barrack and loaded the guys on the back of a Land Rover or truck and took them somewhere in the bush outside the barracks and they were shot. I didn’t shoot anybody but I take responsibility for it”.
