The longest tour operator to The Gambia from the U.K., Gambia Experience has announced resumption of direct flights to The Gambia from December.
The company made the announcement on Wednesday, much to the relief of thousands of people who fly with the company between Gambia and the U.K. The Gambia Experience was established about 40 years ago providing specialist holiday packages and and flight only services the West African nation dubbed The Smiling Coast of Africa.
The move brings an end to eight months of flight suspension to the popular tourist destination due the the Covid-19 pandemic.
Announcing the news, Gambia Experience who have been operating in The Gambia for decades said:
“After eight months of suspended operations, we are very excited to announce that direct flights to The Gambia from the UK will be available once again. We have many customers who have been waiting months and months to travel to and from The Gambia, and who are desperate to see friends and family over the holidays. Thank you for your patience and understanding you have shown us these past weeks and months, we appreciate it has been a very uncertain time while we have been trying to arrange the best options for our customers in the face of many difficult challenges.”
Initially, direct flights will be from London Gatwick only until 18th January when Manchester departures will begin.
This is an encouraging news for the Gambian tourism industry which sees thousands of holiday makers from the U.K. every year.
However, as the U.K. foreign office currently advises against all but essential travel to The Gambia, travellers on the company’s package holiday will need to sign an indemnity form.
“As the FCDO is still advising against all but essential travel, customers wanting to travel on a package holiday will need to sign an indemnity form, and we strongly urge everyone to obtain travel insurance that protects against Covid-19 when travelling.”
