As part of relief efforts in the current state of emergency declared in The Gambia as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, Brikama Area Council has handed over one thousand eight hundred bags of 25kg rice to councillors for onward distribution to “low income households” in their respective wards.
According to BAC, “The gesture forms parts of council's effort in response to fight against COVID-19.”. The distribution of rice to those households less able to procide for themselves during this tying times is a welcome gesture.
The spread of the Coronavirus in The Gambia has not been rapid as seen in other countries in the region. However, experts had warned that social distancing and preventative measures must be strengthened as the country saw an increase of the cases to 22.
