Buba Drammeh, the fugitive who escaped from Mile II Central Prison over two years ago while awaiting trial, has been formally arraigned in The Gambia following his recent arrest and extradition from Senegal.

Drammeh appeared before Magistrate Marchell Tomasey at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 10, 2025, where he was charged with three counts of attempted murder. The charges stem from a 2019 land dispute between the communities of Gunjur and Berending, which had earlier resulted in the death of Buba Jammeh.

Due to the gravity of the charges, the case has been transferred to the High Court for further proceedings. Drammeh has been remanded at Mile II Prison under solitary confinement pending the commencement of his trial.

The Gambia Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to justice, stating that “no fugitive is beyond reach.” The arrest and prosecution of Drammeh, after years on the run, is seen as a significant step in restoring public confidence in the justice system.

Further updates on the case are expected as the High Court schedules proceedings in the coming weeks.
