Gunjur West Coast, 3 August 2024 – The BE REEL has successfully completed its second pilot program, 'Julaya-Silo,' on Friday, August 2, 2024.
Launched on July 8, 2024, this program has empowered women from Gunjur Faibadaa Junction and Gunjur Misera through a month-long series of weekly micro-business training sessions conducted in the Mandinka language.
The training, meticulously designed by Dr. Trevor Long, Dr. Nicolan Swan, and the local BE REEL team, was delivered by Ms. Mansey Jabang, an emerging female entrepreneur, under the guidance of Mr. Buba K. Touray, the program director. The enthusiastic participation and punctuality of the women involved have notably challenged the 'manufactured Gambian maybe time syndrome,' demonstrating their commitment to growth and learning.
With the program's evaluation currently underway, a positive outcome could lead to the initiative's expansion to other communities. This expansion aims to reach women without formal education and include minority groups in remote areas, potentially creating a ripple effect of empowerment and economic development across the Kombo South District.
