The Building Empowerment: Rural Economic Engagement in Life (BE REEL) initiative proudly marked a major milestone with the celebration of its 11th workshop, held on Saturday, April 12th, 2025, at The Gunjur Project Lodge.

The event recognised the achievements of 16 dedicated program members, each of whom was honoured with a certificate of achievement in front of a supportive and proud community. The celebration served as a powerful tribute to ”joy, unity, and the unwavering spirit of rural empowerment.”

Among the distinguished guests in attendance were District Chief Falalo M. Touray, The Alkali of Gunjur Dembo Darboe, Alkalio of Kaajabang Yusupha Saho, and members of the Council of Elders.

The event was also graced by the presence of Dr. Nikki Swan and Dr. Trevor Long, the founders of BE REEL, alongside other key stakeholders.

Since establishing its Gunjur office in March 2021, BE REEL Gambia has trained over 300 local entrepreneurs, helping to build sustainable livelihoods and strengthen economic independence in the region. Through a holistic approach to training and capacity building, the organisation continues to promote community resilience, self-reliance, and long-term growth.

Workshop 11 not only highlighted the successes of individual participants but also reaffirmed the importance of local-led development and grassroots collaboration in driving meaningful change.
