Gunjuronline has received information from concerned families who are worried about the whereabouts of over 200 young people who left the shores of Kartong for Spain on Saturday 14th October. Two weeks on, there has been no contact or communication from any of the migrants who left on that boat two weeks ago.
However, according unconfirmed reports, the Spanish authorities rescued a canoe with 221 people 152 km south of Tenerife (Canary Islands) on Saturday 28th October, which is exactly two weeks after the Kartong boat departure. According to the survivors, the boat left the Gambia two weeks ago.
The body of a child aged about 12-13 was recovered. Survivors also claimed that more than 20 people died at sea, but their bodies have not been recovered as they were left in the sea. Four people were taken by helicopter and eleven people, including children, are in hospital according to the same source.
