Yankuba Darboe, Chairman of Brikama Area Council accompanied by Director of Planning and Development Mrs. Adama Bojang and Mr. Fasaikou Janneh, Senior Planning Technician are currently attending the second session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya.
The session which kicks off on 5th June will end on 9th June 2023 under theme "A sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in times of urban crisis."
The BAC delegation is part the wider Gambian delegation headed by the Hon. Minister, Sheriff Abba Sanyang, and other delegates including Banjul Mayor, Rohey Malick Lowe, DPS - Technical and Madame Fatou Gibba, Gambia's Focal Person Particapory Slum Upgrading Programme(PSUP).
The opening ceremony is attended by HE President, William Ruto and Africa leaders, Civil Society, Private, Public Sectors, Ambassadors, and the Media.
Remarks were made by the UN Secretary General General Antonio Guterres, Executive Director of United Nations Human Settlements Programme Habitat, Maimunah Mohd Sharif ,and other UN family systems representatives.
The thematic debates and discussions during the assembly will focus on universal access to affordable housing, Urban climate action, Urban crisis recovery, localisation of the SDGs, prosperity, and local finance.
