As the Gambian population is projected to reach 5 million in 2050, Dr Ceesay calls for action NOW to cater for this demographic reality.
Political Analyst and Social Anthropologist, Dr Ismaila Ceesay has called for a “New Master Plan” to build a country where Gambians can live in diginity as the country’s population is projected to reach five million in 30 years time.
This means as a country, we must build road networks, healthcare facilities, schools and the infractructure that will be fit for purpose for the demography in 2050.
Consequently, the building blocks for that demographic reality must start now and not in 30 years time.
Dr Ceesay who is a senior lecturer of political science at the University of The Gambia made this call in a tweet to his five thousand plus followers. His words:
“#Gambia: In 2050, our population will reach 5 Million. Will we have enough jobs, housing, road networks, healthcare facilities, schools and infrastructure to ensure our people live in dignity? The work to build a country for this demographic reality must start now. #NewMasterplan”
Our leaders and politicians must not be preoccupied with how to self perpetuate or how to assume the presidency, but how the country is build not only for now, but for generations yet unborn.
Gambians are expected to go to polls in 2021 to elect a new leader as the country ends a five year transition government following the 2016 defeat of Yahya Jammeh who ruled the country for 22 years.
