Agents of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Huesca have detained a 24-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of the sexual assault on a 94-year-old woman in the Huesca town of Tamarite de Litera.
As confirmed by the Civil Guard, the arrest took place last Sunday and the detainee is being held in official dependencies waiting to be brought to justice. The Superior Court of Justice of Aragon has reported that the Investigating Court number 1 of Monzón (Huesca) has opened proceedings, pending the preliminary report of the police proceedings.
The young man is charged with an alleged crime of sexual assault, injury and burglary. The alleged assailant is a young immigrant from the Gambia, who had recently settled in Tamarite de Litera. Judicial sources have indicated to Efe that the young man remained until he came of age in a center in Lleida, from which he was finally expelled because of his behavior.
The event has caused a wave of consternation in Tamarite, a population of about 3,500 inhabitants. The mayor of the town, Francisco Mateo, has indicated that the victim is recovering at his son's house from the trauma caused by what happened.
Agents from the Criminal Investigation Section of the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Huesca, the Criminalistics Laboratory of the Huesca Command, the Judicial Police Team of the Civil Guard of Barbastro and the Tamarite Post have participated in the investigation.
