State House, Banjul, 18th September, 2018 - His Excellency, President Adama Barrow on Monday 17th September, 2018 presided over the swearing-in of the newly appointed Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service, Ebrima O. Camara, and the Deputy Secretary to Cabinet, Mrs. Roheyatou Kah, at the State House in Banjul.

The President described their appointments as “a necessary step towards strengthening the Office of the President, the civil service and the Cabinet office in particular.” Both officials took the prescribed Oaths of Office, Allegiance and Secrecy, vowing to diligently serve the government with distinction. In his congratulatory remarks, President Adama Barrow said the appointments were effected to support the Office of the President and the Civil Service, by extension, in order to smoothen necessary consultations and preparations with Cabinet Ministers and other senior government officials. He urged the new appointees to always look out for the vital national interests of the country, and serve with professionalism in their engagements, without fear or favor. President Barrow reiterated his government’s plans to embark on institutional and legal reforms to leave a legacy of strong and empowered institutions that would adhere to laws and procedures to encourage positive attitude towards work. He also expressed confidence that the newly sworn-in officials would work together in the realization of the development objectives enshrined in the National Development Plan 2018-2021. Reacting to his appointment, Ebrima Camara said:“We already know the objectives and the plans of the government. It is time for us to deliver effectively and efficiently to the people whose expectations are high and can only be best managed if we give our best to them”. Mr. Camara, who held the position back in 2011, was serving as the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, before his new appointment; while Mrs. Roheyatou Kah was one-time a Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum.
