Gunjur United FC have appealed to their manager Sulayman Sambou to Stay on for at least one more year following his announcement of stepping down as team boss.
The players of Gunjur Utd FC urged the longest serving manager to stay to help them achieve their dreams of reaching the first division of Gambian league.
Barely four days since Sulayman Sambou decided to handover the team to the Gunjur Sports Committee which came as a shocking news to the entire Gunjur United FC players and the management are saddened by his decision. It will be a massive blow for Sulayman to leave the club at this moment in time. To the club, sulayman did a lot for this team during his 5 years as a manager. Among his numerous contribution to the club as team boss is the provision of free medical treatment in his health centre, provision of footballing materials like boots and other equipments.
The club further appealed to Gunjur Sports Committee and the entire community of Gunjur both in Gambia and diaspora to give maximum support and rally behind Sulayman as they target Gambia National Division One League promotion.
It could be recalled that Sulayman Sambou, the Chairman/manager of Gunjur United FC announced that he will handover the management of the team to Gunjur Sports Committee on Monday to the numerous messages of appreciation of his great works in managing Gunjur United winning promotion to the second division. Mr Sambou managed Gunjur United FC for 5 years guiding the team to promotion to the Second Division of Gambia Football Federation this year after spending 4 seasons in West Coast Regional 3rd division. Meanwhile Gunjur Sports Committee wil go to congress on Sunday, 15th July 2018.
The congress will be held at the Gunjur Day Care Centre from 10am. The gathering will bring together club delegates affiliated with Gunjur Sports Committee to deliberate on the way forward for sports in the sprawling coastal settlement. There will be reports delivered by the President, Secretary General and Treasurer to the delegates during the course of the congress. This will be followed by election of the new executive committee that will steer the affairs of sports in Gunjur for the next three years.
There is no doubt that the hot topic of the handing over of Gunjur United FC to back to the sports body will be debated. We hope that GSC supports Gunjur United FC in fulfilling their dreams of reaching to the premier division of Gambian football, whatever it takes.
