Gunjur's Mariama Sanyang nominated for National Journalism Award for 2018
The National Journalism award is an annual event that the Gambia Press Union designed to honour and reward outstanding journalists and people who have positively influenced the media industry in The Gambia. It also seeks to motivate journalists in The Gambia to strive for excellence. Mariama is among the list of 23 finalists under 10 categories of reporting, and her nomination falls under the women’s reporting category, an award she will be contesting with GRTS’s Oumie Njie. The story that got her the ticket to the award finals was captioned: Silent builders of our economy. A story that tells the daily struggles of Gambian women who carry their babies on their backs with heavy loads of baskets full of their produce walking to get them places where they can be sold despite the pain. Mariama is one of the few girls in Gunjur that have taken interest in the journalism field and are making a career out of it. She is described by her mates as a smart, determined and passion driven young lady.
