Members of Gunjur Youths Development Association on Sunday benefited from a day long training on ‘Youth involvement in sustainable development’ organised by ANJOFA, an organisation set up to support women, youth groups and school dropouts.
According to Fama Barry, the country coordinator of A.N.J.O.F.A, the organisation has been in existence in the Gambia since 2002 with partners from Holland. She said the training is part of their mandate in empowering youths to participate in community development and nation building.
The training follows the presentation of a 3-year interest-free loan amounting to D84, 000 to GYDA on behalf of all youth groups in Gunjur.
Fama Barry added that the loans are revolving, which means it’s not going only to the organization but rotational in The Gambia so that other communities can benefit too after the three years interest free payment by GYDA beneficiaries.
“I am expecting that by January 2019, I should be able to add more to the loan so that more women can access the loans”.
She concluded while thanking Ousman Manjang, a Gunjur native for bringing the activities of GYDA to her organization’s attention.
In his capacity as the Chairman of the GYDA, Omar Darboe described the training as a life transforming step towards positively impacting the youths in the community. He further urged the participants to make the best use of the knowledge by sharing the skills and insights gained at the training with fellow youths in the community, who were not lucky enough to receive the training.
