Gunjur have been pooled in a dream group for the 2017 Super Nawettan competition after drawing Bakau, Lamin and S/K Central in this afternoon's draw, held at the tournament sponsors, FIBank's head office on Kairaba Avenue. 

The Champions will open the bout against Bakau on Sunday, October 15th at the Independence stadium in Bakau. The draw should hold no stops for the boys from Dabanani (Four door) if the champs can replicate anything near their prowesses last term. And already they are tipped as favourites to top Group A. In the old days Bakau would've been an obstacle for the Gunjurians, but they seem to has lost their touch a bit of late. Gunjur ran out with an emphatic 2-0 victory the last time the two teams met in the same competition last season. Goals from Mbemba Fatty (Iniesta) and the prolific Lamin Jallow (Sako) sailed Gunjur to the quarter-finals. Last season Gunjur made a perfect start to the tournament when they came out 2-1 winners in their opening game against Brufut at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama. The team then had a mini dip in form after drawing their next game against SereKunda East and lost 1 - 0 to Banjul amid controversial circumstances, where many criticised the decision to allow Banjul to play the game at home, which contributed to the bad blood that ensued throughout the game and after. However the team bounced back with a sound victory over Bakau in their fourth group game and a narrow 1 - 0 lost to rivals Sukuta meant the team finished 3rd in Group B. The 3-1 Victory over Brikama in the quarter-finals was the pinnacle of the team's ascension to glory and they didnt look back from then on. A repeat of the their game with the Dembadu boys in the semi-finals, meant a probable revenge was on the cards for the Gunjur boys against one of their fiestiest rivals and with the game finishing 1 -1, Gunjur finished on top with a 4-2 penalty shootout victory to set up a mouth watering final against Banjul and the rest is history. The other two teams in Group A, Lamin and SereKunda Central should pose no trouble to Gunjur, with both being the whipping boys of their group last term, where SK Central finished bottom of the group with no win. Gunjur's triumph last season brought great joy to the football loving fans of Dabanani and today's draw will no doubt evoke a new fervour in their army of supporters, both at home and abroad and hopefully the team can mount a successful title defence.
