The Gimindar Youth Development Association (GYDA) celebrated its one year anniversary in Gunjur on Thursday 7th September with a seminar on the theme: “Together we stand the chance to develop our community"
The association since inception has been engaging in numerous developmental activities in the community ranging from rehabilitation of high ways and streets by filling holes which creates easy access for vehicles and people during the rainy season.
This group of young people took it upon themselves to manage waste at dumpsites by way of keeping the environment clean and period cleaning exercises of the central mosque, Market and the health centre.
GYDA believes that for a progressive and smooth development of any community, an inclusive approach to problems will ease the burden on the central government which cannot do it alone. And as such, feel the need to play its quota in nation building driven by love for country without expecting any form of remuneration. For his part,, Kalilu Bojang spoke on the importance of environmental health and underscored that prevention from diseases can be achieved through a healthy environment. Mr Bojang said taking care of stagnant water during rainy season, managing running water ways, regular clearing and cleaning of the immediate environments will go a long way in promoting environmental health.
Omar A J Saho spoke on the importance and promotion of environmental protection and solutions to environmental degradation among others. Other speakers at the event include Lamin E Manneh, Alieu Jabang . Mr Manneh and Jabang both spoke about the importance of youth in nation building and commended GYDA for mobilising themselves to form such an important group to engage in promotion of a healthy environment.The event was well attended by a cross section of the community of Gunjur and the environs.
