Lamin Singhateh in his debut for Buckingham United scored the only goal that makes the difference in Alieu Mourinho Jabang’s sponsored super cup of Late Modou Janneh Memorial Intermediate football competition. Singhateh’s brilliant left-footed freekick on 26th minutes helped cup winners Buckingham claimed the prize at the expense of the reigning champions Mighty Ajax F.C. The traditional season opener at Gunjur Nyamina Arena was graced by lots of spectators, amongst them Mrs. Rabi Hydara Jabang the wife of the sponsor and brothers and sisters, Bubacarr Kakai Bojang head coach Gunjur United F.C, Lamin Fatty founder G.I.P Football Academy among others.
The win for Buckingham means their fourth trophy since the inception of the competition three years ago. As winners they went home with a trophy and three-thousand dalasis (D3,000) plus medals for their players and three officials. While their captain Bakary Touray who snatch the golden ball award in last season’s competition was voted as the eighteen (17) months old Ibrahim John Jabang’s man of the match award of five hundred dalasis. While Mighty Ajax were handed a runners up prize of two-thousand dalasis.
It is the second season in succession Alieu Mourinho Jabang sponsored the super cup of Late Modou Janneh’s Memorial Intermediate tournament as, a result, is the first time in the history of intermediate football in Gunjur a super cup winner received three-thousand dalasis prize money.
