All is Rosy for Gunjur Football Everything is going right and rosy for Gunjur football after they clinched the 2016 Super Nawettan and 2016-2017West Coast Regional third division league title. Gunjur came from one nil down to beat Banjul 2-1 in the final played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Friday 28 October 2016 to clinch their first-ever Super Nawettan crown since the inception of the tournament in 1992. Salifu Bojang, alias Bapa, was awarded the 2016 Super Nawettan best player and striker Malang Jassey, alias Uncle, was on target for Gunjur in the 36th and 77th minute of the game respectively. Right-back Essa Jallow gave Banjul the lead in the 18th minute from the penalty spot after winger Assan Gaye was brought down inside the area by Gunjurโs left-back Yusupha Touray, alias Eso. Gunjur defeated Greater Tomorrow 1-0 in the final played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium on Saturday to lift the 2016-2017 West Coast Regional third division league title. They also gained automatic promotion to the Gambia Football Federation second division next season. Prolific striker Malang Jassey, alias Uncle, produced an astonishing strike send the Gunjur-based outfit to the West Coast Regional third tier title and also to the Gambia Football Federation second division league next season.
